Our Brochure
Access our brochures for detailed information on NWEC’s steel fabrication capabilities, certifications, project experience, and end-to-end engineering solutions for major infrastructure and industrial projects across Australia.
Process piping, pressure vessels, plant structures and shutdown maintenance. Fabricated in Australia, delivered to schedule.
NWEC fabricates structural steel and process piping for refineries, LNG facilities, petrochemical plants and processing facilities. With CC3 certification, AS/NZS ISO 3834.2 welding accreditation and a facility processing 80 tonnes per week, we have the capacity and the compliance credentials to meet the demands of major oil and gas projects.
Our Villawood facility handles the full scope in-house, from structural steel and pressure vessel fabrication to complex process piping assemblies, then coordinates delivery and field installation directly. No third-party fabricators in the chain, and no offshore components creating programme risk. For EPC contractors, subcontract managers and procurement teams working to tight schedules, that means certainty.

What we fabricate for oil, gas and petrochemical projects
Process piping (a core NWEC strength)
Process piping is bread and butter for NWEC. We fabricate high-specification process piping for refineries, LNG plants, petrochemical facilities and upstream infrastructure, to AS/NZS ISO 3834.2, with weld mapping, full traceability and documentation packages as standard. We work across carbon steel, stainless steel and alloy materials, with surface treatment completed in our enclosed on-site workshop before handover.
Pressure vessels
We fabricate pressure vessels for processing, storage and separation applications to AS 1210, with full dimensional inspection and non-destructive testing where specified, and documentation prepared to client requirements including material traceability, weld records and inspection test plans.
Plant structures and structural steel
Pipe racks, equipment support structures, access platforms, mezzanines and skid frames, fabricated to CC3 under AS/NZS 5131, with weld quality consistent enough that components arrive site-ready and install without remedial work.
Shutdown and turnaround maintenance
Shutdown windows are fixed. We have delivered fabricated components into live-site and turnaround programmes across oil, gas and heavy industrial facilities, scaling from 50 to 80 permanent staff to up to 500 field personnel to meet compressed timelines without compromising quality.
Featured project: Crude Oil Tank T1006, Viva Energy
NWEC delivered Crude Oil Tank T1006 as principal, under a design and construct contract for Viva Energy. As principal we carried the project from design through fabrication to construction, to the standards this work demands.
Also delivered: Ichthys LNG
NWEC delivered fabricated structural steelwork for the Ichthys LNG development as a fabrication sub-contractor to the head contractor, UGL, one of the largest oil and gas projects in Australian history, to strict quality and documentation standards in a complex multi-contractor environment, and to programme.
Australian fabrication, no import lead time
With offshore fabrication, a four week shipping delay can become an eight week shutdown extension. NWEC fabricates entirely in Australia and dispatches from Villawood without import logistics in the equation. Where the critical path runs through the fabrication package, that matters.
Capacity when you need it
- 80 tonnes per week typical throughput, up to 200 tonnes per week at peak, from a purpose-built 1.8 hectare facility in Villawood, NSW
- A permanent workforce of 50 to 80 staff, scaling to up to 500 field personnel for major phases and shutdowns
- A 2,000 square metre fully enclosed blasting and painting workshop on the same site as fabrication
- Weld Australia 2024 Company of the Year (Fabrication)
Quality and documentation Tier 1 contractors rely on
In oil and gas, the documentation is scrutinised as hard as the steel. NWEC delivers the full paperwork trail Tier 1 head contractors require:
- Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), developed and maintained per project
- Full material traceability, from mill certificate through to installed steel
- Manufacturer's Data Records (MDR), weld maps and logs, compiled and handed over as a complete package
- Welding to AS/NZS ISO 3834.2, by qualified welders with qualified procedures
- Non-destructive testing and coating inspection to AS 1627.4, ISO 8501-1, AS/NZS 2312 and AS 3894
- As-built documentation and NCRs to suit client and project requirements

Frequently Asked Questions
What welding standard does NWEC fabricate process piping to?
AS/NZS ISO 3834.2, which covers comprehensive quality requirements for fusion welding. All welds are produced by qualified welders with full traceability documentation available on request.
Can NWEC manage shutdown fabrication with short lead times?
Yes. Our workforce scales to up to 500 personnel for shutdowns and turnarounds, and our in-house blasting and painting facility removes a common bottleneck in compressed programmes.
Does NWEC supply documentation packages for oil and gas projects?
Yes. We produce material traceability, weld maps, inspection test plans and as-built records to suit client and project-specific requirements, as standard for regulated facilities and EPC contracts.
Is NWEC prequalified for major contractor programmes?
NWEC holds CC3 certification under AS/NZS 5131, TfNSW and SCA prequalification, and PCCP registration, with a documented history in Tier 1 EPC and head contractor environments.
