Roads, rail and bridges. Fabricated in Sydney, certified for government projects.
NWEC provides the structural steelwork and associated fabrication that major government and public infrastructure projects depend on. Operating from our multi-discipline Villawood facility, we deliver fabrication, surface treatment and installation in-house, to the certification and documentation standards these projects demand.
As a CC3 certified sub-contractor to Tier 1 infrastructure contractors across NSW, with TfNSW and SCA prequalification, we bring proven, fully documented fabrication discipline to your project, ready to mobilise on your scope.

Trusted on Australia's major transport and civil infrastructure programs
Government and public infrastructure work is defined by compliance: exact tolerances, absolute traceability and documentation that stands up to audit. NWEC has delivered structural steel on landmark NSW infrastructure, including:
- Rozelle Interchange ITS major steel
- JHCPB JV Rozelle Interchange ventilation system
- WestConnex Parramatta Road ventilation facility
What we fabricate for infrastructure

- Tunnel and ventilation steelwork and support structures
- Access structures, platforms, walkways and handrails
- Support steelwork, frames and equipment supports
- Surface treatment and protective coating for exposed environments
Technical fabrication capacity
- Up to 40 tonne overhead cranage and members up to 12 metres
- Plate thickness from 5 mm to 100 mm and above
- 80 tonnes per week baseline throughput from a 1.8 hectare Villawood facility
- Welding processes: FCAW, SAW, GMAW, GTAW and MMAW
- Workforce of 50 to 80 permanent staff, scaling to up to 500 field personnel
Steel grades and material handling
AS/NZS 3678 plates (Grade 250 to 450), AS/NZS 3679.1 hot-rolled sections (Grade 300, 350), AS/NZS 3679.2 welded sections (Grade 300 to 400) and AS/NZS 1163 hollow sections (Grade C250 to C450).
Delivery models and documentation
We work to the delivery model the project needs: supply only, supply and install, full steelwork package (design build), or design assist. Documentation deliverables include ITPs, weld maps and logs, Manufacturer’s Data Records (MDR), coating inspection reports, as-built documentation and NCRs.
Quality and documentation Tier 1 contractors rely on
Government infrastructure is audited end to end, and the documentation has to stand up to it. NWEC delivers the paperwork trail Tier 1 head contractors require:
- Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), developed and maintained per project
- Full material traceability, from mill certificate through to installed steel
- Manufacturer's Data Records (MDR), weld maps and logs, compiled and handed over as a complete package
- Welding to AS/NZS ISO 3834.2, by qualified welders with qualified procedures
- Non-destructive testing and coating inspection to AS 1627.4, ISO 8501-1, AS/NZS 2312 and AS 3894
- As-built documentation and NCRs to suit client and project requirements
